About Prepared Household
Sensible preparation for UK families. No bunkers, no panic.
Prepared Household is an independent site, based in Aberdeen, Scotland, that helps ordinary UK households get ready for the things that actually happen here: winter storms, power cuts, water outages and the odd few days of disruption.
Up here in the north-east we've seen how quickly a storm can take the power out for days. Being ready doesn't take a lot of money or a spare room full of tins. It takes a little planning, a few sensible bits of kit, and knowing what to do.
How we work
- We start with official guidance from gov.uk, the British Red Cross, local councils and the energy network operators, and link to it.
- We say when you don't need something. Most guides start with what you probably already own.
- We always include a budget option, because preparation shouldn't depend on income.
- We're honest about how we test. Where we've used a product ourselves, we say so. Where a pick is based on research, specs and owner reviews, we say that too.
- We never put safety second. No advice that risks carbon monoxide, fire or injury.
How we make money
Some links on this site are affiliate links: if you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It keeps the site free and independent, and it never changes what we recommend. Read our full disclosure.
